Vending Machine Challenge II results

nyc.metblogs.com has a report about the undercard of Vending Machine Challenge II, won by amNY and gizmodo has a blog entry with a video about the second contest, won by Pocket Change. The blogger from metblogs only covered the first contest because s/he left between contests:

To be fair, I left before the main event, so bored and annoyed was I. It could have taken a turn for the awesome, but I doubt it. Also, I should mention how incredibly sweet the organizers were. There was a mix-up with my tickets (which happened to be totally my fault), but the long and short of it was that they let me in with very little proof that I’d actually paid. It’s a rare occurrence for people to be so kind. Finally, the booze was free (or came with the cost a $22 ticket, but I drank my money’s worth). Okay so, all in all, it wasn’t bad. But it wasn’t awesome, and it should have been.

update lvhrd.org and nymag.com have recaps of the evening. Lance Bass (NSYNC) and Jaime Lynn-DiScala (Meadow Soprano) were in attendance.

NY Times: Kobayashi to endorse Coors Light beer

NYTimes.com reports that Takeru Kobayashi will appear in Coors Light’s new advertising campaign:

The [Silver Bullet] train shows up at the end of the commercials that are to begin running next week, which present men of superlative achievement offering humorous endorsements of Coors Light as “the world’s most refreshing beer.”

The endorsers include Michael Johnson, identified as “the world’s fastest man,” and Takeru Kobayashi, identified as “the world’s fastest eater.”

The commercials are in a funny way a counterpoint to a successful radio campaign for Bud Light beer, sold by Anheuser-Busch, which offers mock salutes to “real men of genius” who are actually imaginary magnates of dubious achievement.

Upcoming State of IFOCE / MLE Address on BB.com

Brian Seiken has emailed me that he is producing a “State of IFOCE/MLE Address” video for beautifulbrian.com to express his frustrations with that organization. He believes that the video might result in the termination of his involvement with IFOCE/MLE and possibly the end of his website altogether.

Tel Aviv pasta contest

Reuters blogs has an entry and a video about a hands free pasta eating contest held in Tel Aviv, Israel last Friday.

Though he won a year’s supply of pasta, it’s likely the winner will have to remove it from his house. The Jewish holiday of Passover is celebrated in just over two weeks time and those who celebrate the holiday are not allowed to have foods made from flour and bread in their homes.

Eat the Meat contest slideshow

Steve DePino photographed the Eat the Meat wing eating competition held in New Haven, CT Saint Patrick’s Day and placed his pictures in a slideshow. Apparently Joe Menchetti did not compete (the winner wore a bird costume), nor does he appear in the finalists list, so he might have been banned for being a professional.

Japanese consent forms can offer more than expected

Deresque was disappointed to learn that a picture of himself at a contest was placed on the back of the candy endorsed by Nobuyuki Shirota and Tomoko Miyake without his permission and more upset when he realized that the candy manufacturer had obtained the legal right to do so without his awareness:

When… with you think, the occasion where it occurs to the certain conference

‘All image photographs of the conference revert to the conference. ‘

With applying, you say, you sign to the letter of consent.

Full AICE meatball results

From AICE News:

1. Tom Goose Gilbert, 38.00 Meatballs
2. Bob “Killer” Kuhns 31.75
3. Pat “Dr. Delicious” Bruss 31.50
4. Ian “The Invader” Hickman 25.75
5. Mark “The Human Vacuum” Lyle 23.50
6. Johnny “The Human Garbage Disposal” Castillo 22.0

The northeastern snowstorm must have interfered with Joe Menchetti’s travel plans 😉

From the commentary about these results:

“The Goose” has established himself as America’s #1 Competitive Eater and should be given strong consideration as the World’s Best Food Warrior. AICE Chairman, Arnie “Chowhound” Chapman who emceed the event stated that, ” Gilbert is the best competitive Eater in the World……….why else would Takeru Kobayashi and Joey Chesnut refuse to compete against the “Green Beret of Grub” . Also, states Chapman, “AICE has now established itself as the best group of Food Warriors on the planet Earth, and you can hear the grumbling of fear in the stomachs of our competitors…”

Don “Moses” Lerman reports that a new restaurant in Yaphank, NY (Long Island), The Black Rock Tavern, will offer a 5 pound burger and a Wall of Fame for finishers of that sandwich. They use a picture from Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub in their ad. (You can read “Denny’s” on the menu) In addition to the burger challenge, the restaurant’s menu says they will offer all you can eat wings on Thursday for $20. The tavern’s myspace page says that it will open some time in April. They are hiring next weekend.
