Megamunch & Humble Bob WB 16 reports

Megamunch has written a blog entry about Wing Bowl 16 and his attempts at pre-contest tailgating. He was forced to migrate between 4 different parking lots before entering the Wachovia Center to be a part of “Big” Brian Subich’s entourage. Megamunch has a captioned gallery of his trip.

“Humble” Bob Shoudt has also posted his report about his participation in Wing Bowl 16. Like other eaters, he has questions about the counting and ranking of his first round results:

At the end of the 14 minutes, I had eaten 108 wings. I was nervous that would not be enough as these wings were much faster then the cold rocks I had last year.

We waited for a while and then a guy came around and told us if we were in the 2nd round or not. I was told no, so I picked up my stuff. My judge came by and asked where I was sitting for the 2nd round. I said I wasn’t, I didn’t make it. He said “Those guys must have eaten a _ _ _ _ load of wings (refering to the other eaters). I asked him how he scored me. He said 17 and 18s on each plate (5 full plates). I was satisfied that I did not make it as that put me at 17+17+17+17+18 – worst case = 86 plus 6 on the last plate = 92 total. I assumed 92 would not be enough. When they announced that 70 was the 10th place total, I thought they they had just made a mistake. Nope. Next year…

Joey looking for San Jose matzoh balls

The Vallejo Times Herald reports that Joey Chestnut has not started practicing for his next contest:

“I’ve never had a matzoh ball,” Joey said Friday. “There’s not much of a Jewish community in Vallejo. I’m looking for a place in San Jose that sells ’em.”

Joey has sold the Toyota Tundra he won at the Wing Bowl and is undecided if he will keep the motorcycle he won for winning the first half.

Micheal Springer interview in PC newspaper

The website for the newspaper of Providence College has an interview with Michael Springer. Springer was prohibited from competing in the finals for the “Eat The Meat” wing contest after winning a qualifier, but that ban was not mentioned in the interview.

In other news about big eating Friars, this Rhode Island Monthly article about former Providence basketball player, and current ESPN announcer, Doris Burke, reports she is the second biggest eater in women’s basketball:

She’s hungry, and as she parks in the darkness of a casino garage she hopes she isn’t too late for the crew lunch. She works out ninety minutes most days at a gym near her house, and she is as slender as she was twenty years ago when she played at PC. You wouldn’t know it from looking at her, but she can out-eat any woman on the basketball circuit but one, and she’s half Burke’s age.

Hi, my name is Fred Barnet and I love Chicken Wings. I love them so much that for the entire month of January 2007, I will be eating nothing but Chicken Wings (and carrots and celery). The project was documented at http://chickenwingproject.blogspot.com/ (January archive) and a myspace page. Mr. Barnet appeared on Atlanta’s local Fox news to promote his endeavor. 587 wings were consumed in total last month.

Major League Eating video game announced

mle_gamebox.jpg

A press release announces that Mastiff Games has acquired the rights to make a video game based on Major League Eating.

Major League Eating: The Game features the world’s greatest gurgitory athletes competing across twelve different food types. Built much like a fighting game, MLE: The Game requires players to show brilliant on-screen eating; a mastery of offensive and defensive weapons including burps, belches, and mustard gas; and of course the technical mastery necessary to avoid emptying one’s stomach in a vividly colored reversal of fortune.

ifoce.com has no additional information except for a link in the sidebar to the Mastiff home page. The platforms and expected release date for the game were not announced.

It will be interesting to see how much eaters receive, if any, for use of their electronic likenesses.

update This AFP article reports that Mastiff hopes to release the game in time for the July 4 Nathan’s finals.

Kotaku has a blog entry with 77 comments currently

Japanese article about the game

update #2 ripten has an interview with game developer Bill Swartz He says that eaters will have signature moves (Will the “Baby Bird” be one of them? 😉 ) and evades the question of whether game characters will be based on real world eaters.

update #3 The San Jose Mercury reports that Joey Chestnut will appear in the game.

update #4 SoupyTrumpet produced a demo of the game box (see above)

The Mental Floss blog has a list of 6 restaurants and their eating challenges. A picture of Don “Moses” Lerman and “Krazy” Kevin Lipsitz is used to illustrate Pinata’s Monster Burrito challenge. Joey Chestnut is also mentioned as a finisher of the Belly Buster Pizza. There are two challenges I was not previously aware of: a Seattle 12 egg omelet (which is not free if finished under a certain time) and a spicy ice cream challenge in North Carolina. The entry has 63 comments. There are also a lot of comments on digg.

Wing Tut in NY Post

(Via “Pleasure and Payne”) Derek “Wing Tut” Payne designed some anti New England Patriot T shirts. The New York Post mentioned that line of clothing:

Derek Payne, 28, of Pittsburgh, designed a line of “18-1” shirts that are being sold on zazzle.com.

On his shirts, the numeral 1 is replaced with a graphic of a hand flipping the bird.

“I’m a Steeler fan, so I’ll give the Pats the middle finger as much as anybody,” he said. “I was definitely cheering for the New York Giants as they knocked the Pats off their perch last night.”
