The Chick Fil A Bowl held an eating contest at Sal Grosso's Brazilian Steakhouse where members of the University of Virginia football team defeated players on Auburn University's team by an average of 9.03 pounds per player (1002 total) to 5.9 pounds per player (614 total) which is ironic considering that Chick Fil A's commercials featuring cows discourage viewers from eating beef. Kevin "LA Beast" reports that he completed the five "fat sandwich" challenge at Rutgers University resulting in the addition of the "Fat LA Beast" sandwich to the menu.
Naader Reda reports that he completed 97 out of the 100 eating challenges he attempted in 2011.
"Notorious" Bob Shoudt has uploaded a video of him opening a box of baseball cards that are guaranteed to contain a celebrity autograph.
The LA Times has a video from the Beef Bowl where members of the University of Wisconsin's football team outate the University of Oregon's team by a total of 723 pounds of prime rib to 612. Wisconsin lineman Travis Frederick reportedly ate 88 ounces of steak. Madison.com has a gallery.

Golfer Michelle Wie has posted a picture of a big "John Daly-esque" burger she ate before a round of golf.
The Kickstarter page seeking funding to produce a pilot episode of The Hungry Todd Rungy Show announces that the project has exceeded its funding goal of $6,000 before its December 31 deadline. (via Patrick Michels email)

Top IFOCE / MLE calendar-year winning percentages

A list of the top calendar-year winning percentage in IFOCE / MLE contests is available after the jump. Kobayashi obviously has the top winning percentage of 100% for the years 2001-2006. Joey Chestnut in 2010 has the top percentage (81.25%) for someone competing in 10 or more contests. (He would have had a percentage of 85.7% (12/14) in 2011 if he won the CP Biggest eater qualifier). Percentages of 50% or more for people competing in at least four contests have been listed. The second column is number of wins, the third is number of contests and the fourth is the fraction of contests won.

The new poll asks what do you think is the best calendar year in IFOCE history.

Eric "Silo" Dahl was the first person to finish the 26 inch "Beast" pizza challenge at Tenney's pizza in Sandy, UT. His time was 11 minutes and 19.9 seconds.
A post about the "Eatcredibles" competitive eating team from Hong Kong made the list of the best 2011 blog entries about food for the Wall Street Journal's Scene Asia blog.
College Football Talk reports that University of Oregon offensive lineman Mark Asper applied the Heimlich maneuver on a man choking during the pre-Rose Bowl "Beef Bowl" eating contest held at Lawry's in Beverly Hills. The choking man was the father of an Oregon student and apparently not participating in the "Beef Bowl".

Most IFOCE / MLE victories in a calendar year

The MLE facebook announces that Pat Bertoletti was victorious in 18 MLE contests in 2011. (This apparently counts a victory over a team of amateurs in a pepperoni slice eating contest.) If you count every round of the US Open of Competitive eating as an individual contest, then Sonya Thomas exceeded that mark with 19 victories in 2005. A list of everyone with 10 or more victories in IFOCE/MLE contests in a calendar year according to the eatfeats database follows after the jump.
