New poll on AICE rankings
The new poll asks how many of the AICE pre-contract top 50 will remain listed in the rankings.
Will Millender has announced he will not sign the AICE contract and has already been unlisted. (Ian Hickman has also been moved from the Hall of Fame back into the active rankings)
Similarities between the AICE & WLOCE contracts
Here is section 5 of the WLOCE contract according to Andrew “A-Bomb” Lane’s blog:

And here is the corresponding section in the new AICE contract according to Furious Pete (see also)

The it’s represent improper use of an apostrophe which should not be used in a possessive pronoun.
“A-Bomb” blows up the WLOCE contract
Andrew Lane, now going by “A-Bomb” instead of “Skinnyboy” has a blog entry about the agreement competitors are required to sign before participating in the upcoming WLOCE Boulder cupcake eating contest. The agreement requires signees to pay 20% of their (non-contest competitive eating updated) earnings back to WLOCE, indemnification for Shea Communications (?) and a restriction on participating in non-WLOCE sanctioned events.
2nd half IFOCE prize money 2007 vs. 2008
Summing the cash purses in the IFOCE contests list (and adding the missing 2008 Krystal finals) reveals that the combined amount of the purses increased from $128,650 to $156,050 ($10,000 was not awarded due to the Kolache Factory’s contest cancellation by Hurricane Ike) The increase was mainly due due the adding of the Oklahoma BBQ ($10,000 purse) and Famous Famigia pizza ($14,000 purse) and the increase of the Krystals finals purse from $35,000 to $50,000.
Combining the first half purses of $51,750 (2007) and $28,250 (2008) from a previous blog entry produces a total purse of $180,400 for 2007 and and $184,300 for 2008 (of which $174,300 was awarded)
The 2007 purse does not include any amounts for the Las Vegas Spike TV contests since those values have never been publicized.
A list of all the contest purses is available after the jump.

Jason Skrzypek profile on WLOCE.com
An anonymous commenter noted that a profile page for Jason Skrzypek, ranked #5 on WLOCE.com, has been added to that website. Jason Skrzypek is listed in the eatfeats database, which reports he finished 9th in the 2006 Atlanta Krystal Square Off qualifier.
Dale Boone starts WLOCE website

A comment by Crawfish contained a link about Dale Boone’s victory in the corndog eating contest at Corndogorama. In the pictures, Dale Boone is wearing a World League of Competitive Eating baseball cap and has a shirt with a .com address. Trying WLOCE.com reveals that a website has been set up at that address. The site has a standings list which Dale Boone leads. P.Thayagarajan, mentioned as an Indian giant and a possible entrant in last year’s Nathan’s finals on IFOCE.com, is #6. Most of the links on the page are inoperable, but a contact page and safety guidelines are available.

2008 first half IFOCE cash purses down 45% vs. 2007
According to the IFOCE.com contest list page (along with the St. Pat’s Chowdown page), $28250 has been awarded in contests so far this year, while $51750 was the sum of the cash prizes for the first half of last year, resulting in a 45% decrease.
There were 3 contests with a 5 digit purse in the first half of 2007 ($10,000 Long Beach chili cheese fries, $15,000 St. Pat’s Chowdown, $10,000 shoo fly pie), while $5,000 is the largest purse so far this year.
The comparison does not attempt take into account the value of non-cash prizes. There were two contests with non-cash awards (not counting Wing Bowls) in the first six months of 2007 (TripRewards wings and the amateur shoo fly pie contest) while all contests so far this year have cash prizes.
The decline in the second quarter (2007:$21750 vs. 2008:$16750) was considerably less than the difference for the first three months of the year (2007:$30,000 vs 2008:11,500)
A listing of the contests and their prizes follows after the jump.

IFOCE ranking release dates

The current gap of 251 days (8 months and a week) since the most recent ranking on July 8, 2007 now exceeds the previous longest gap between the five rankings, which was 242 days between November 8, 2006 and July 8, 2007.
July 8, 2007 – 242 day gap
November 8, 2006 – 106 day gap
July 25, 2006 – 116 day gap
March 31, 2006 – 198 day gap
September 14, 2005
Number of IFOCE contests: 2003-2007
| 2003 | 33 | |
| 2004 | 78 | |
| 2005 | 119 | |
| 2006 | 87 | |
| 2007 | 69 |
The table above gives the total number of IFOCE contests in the eatfeats database for the years 2003-2007. (Click on the number to see the list) Every matchup in the US Open of Competitive Eating or the title rallies counts as a contest, which contributes to 2005 having the most contests. I am going to try to get the database to count the total number of IFOCE events each year, defining event as a date and site that had one or more contests.
BB.com: Ray Meduna claims pepper prediction doctored
BeautifulBrian.com reports that Ray “The Bison” Meduna claims that the Laredo jalapeno prediction appearing on IFOCE.com was not the prediction he sent to IFOCE:
After reading the final column which appeared on CEN on Feb 25th , Ray Meduna was obviously quite upset. “I didnt say anything about doughting me at their own peril or that crap. I was set up by Livingston and Rich and i am disturbed by this. Meduna knew Bertoletti was the favorite and basically write about why he thinks Erik is good with hot foods.
Meduna would like the competitive eating world to know that the column the IFOCE wrote on his prediction was doctored by Rich Shea because Meduna claims he wrote an entirely different article.
I will post the original prediction on this website if it is emailed to me.
