The qualifier has started. Some reports say the contest has been held at the New York New York Hotel & Casino for 17 years, which would probably make it the second longest running event on the MLE calendar after the Nathan’s finals. (Rich Shea said it has been held for 10 years in his interview.)
ESPN 1100 has an interview with Rich Shea about tomorrow's Nathan's qualifier in Las Vegas. Pablo Martinez and Mary Bowers are the favorites; the only other competitors mentioned are locals John DeHaas & Mandy (Manny?) Griffin. Rich Shea says he expects Miki Sudo (who will not be at the qualifier) to easily defeat Sonya Thomas in the Nathan's finals if they compete. Several Nathan's prediction polls have been added to the sidebar. Jerry's Nugget in Las Vegas will start a prime rib challenge on Sunday April 27. Diners who finish a 48 ounce steak in under 45 minutes will receive the meal for free.
Miki Sudo is not expected to defend her title at Saturday's Nathan's qualifier in Las Vegas. She is listed as an entrant in the Houston qualifier May 3. update April 22 The Houston Chronicle column does not appear to be accurate; it claims the qualifier is Saturday and not May 3 and the contest does not appear on Miki Sudo's calendar.

Las Vegas Sun: Miki Sudo withdraws from Nathan’s finals
update Rake & Herald has confirmed the withdrawal. This will leave the women’s finals without the two top performers in the qualifiers: Miki Sudo (40) & Molly Schuyler (31)
Rake & Herald noticed that the caption for Las Vegas Sun’s gallery of Miki Sudo at Wednesday’s Hooters wing qualifier announces that she has withdrawn from Thursday’s Nathan’s finals (She will compete in the Hooters finals).
Rich Shea made no mention of Miki withdrawing on his interview on ESPN’s Mike & Mike show earlier this morning.
The withdrawal notice did not appear on the original caption of the gallery which is available in the Google Cache (date June 28)
If the withdrawal is not of Miki’s volition, she has the option of filing a complaint with the Nevada Gaming Control Board that a contest held on casino grounds reneged on its prize.

Miki Sudo will appear in a burger eating contest at the Heart Attack Grill on tonight's episode of Only in America with Larry the Cable Guy at 9pm eastern/ 8 central tonight. The episode will be rerun at 1:01 am. Larry will live tweet during the episode. @GitRDoneLarry will live tweet during the episode. update Miki appeared in the background of the spanking scene, but the eating contest was cut unless the program returns to the Heart Attack Grill for another segment.
Miki Sudo, Adrian Morgan, Juan Rodriguez, Jeff Butler and Steve Hendry are expected to compete in tomorrow's Hooters wing qualfier tomorrow. This means that at most five of the 2012 finalists will return to the 2013 finals: Sonya Thomas, Joey Chestnut, Juliet Lee, Erik Denmark and possibly Adrian Morgan.
