Juliet wins Nashville qualifier after 3 way OT

The Krystal Square Off twitter reports that Juliet Lee won the Nashville qualifier after a 10 burger was held between her, Badlands Booker and Juris Shibayama. The official amount eaten in regulation time has not been posted yet.

IFOCE.com reports
that there was a lot of controversy over the results and possible new rules might be implemented:

Juliet Lee maintained a five second dunk throughout regulation but pre-chewed so aggressively the judges had difficulty determining her final count. Many fans and eaters alike questioned the outcome. Judges determined that the eat off should occur.

Major League Eating has announced it will hold an an impromptu conference call this evening to consider the adoption of a new rule to eliminate confusion in future contests.

update The official amount in regulation time is 51 burgers, which puts Juris Shibayama and Badlands Booker in the top 3 wild card positions.

U of Kentucky repeats as Music City Bowl rib victors

kentucky.scout.com reports that members of the University of Kentucky football team defeated players from Florida State University in both team and individual rib eating contests held by the Music City Bowl in Nashville. The Florida State contingent’s performance might have been hurt by a mass suspension due to a cheating scandal.

The University of Kentucky also won the event last year, defeating Clemson in a contest marred by Clemson defensive tackle Elsmore Gabriel requiring the Heimlich maneuver after getting a piece of bone lodged in his throat.

Hungry Sisters go to KSO IV

HungrySisters is a new blog describing its focus as: “food, especially (but not necessarily limited to): Dairy Queen, Tacos, and the fine art known as competitive eating.” The sisters traveled west from their home in North Carolina to go to the Krystal Square Off finals and wrote a trip report about it.

The next morning we were ready for the festivities to begin. We ate breakfast at this awesome cafe connected to our hotel. Sadie and I both ordered Chocolate Chip Pancakes. After breakfast, we checked out of the hotel and walked to the riverside where the contest was to take place. We arrived about 2 hours early, but we didn’t have anything better to do, so we watched the Krystal People set up the area for the contest. While we were waiting, we met Crazy Legs Conti!!!! It was the coolest thing ever. It was our first encounter meeting a real-live competitive eater; one who we have seen on TV many, many times. Very exciting!!!

Behind the scenes with a bunnette

Liz has posted her trip report from the Krystal Square Off IV finals where she served as Pat Bertoletti’s bunnette. A gallery is available.

I really enjoyed cheerleading.
Like, maybe I should have been a cheerleader. I mean, if I hadn’t gone to the hippie high school with no cheerleading. Or sports. And if I hadn’t quit gymnastics in middle school after hitting my head trying to do a back handspring. And that I would never have been caught dead cheerleading when I was 16. I mean all that aside, I would have made a killer cheerleader.
