Sonya Thomas breaks streak vs. Bertoletti

According to the eatfeats database, yesterday’s Acme Oyster contest was the first time Sonya Thomas finished ahead of Pat Bertoletti since the October 8, 2006 jalapeno eating contest at the Texas State Fair. Bertoletti’s streak spanned 16 competitions.

With the exception of the controversial Mardi Gras crawfish contest, Sonya Thomas had not finished ahead of Tim Janus since the 2007 Three Brothers Pizza contest. (They tied for second place in the 2008 Three Brothers Pizza contest)

The winner of the women's division at the San Antonio tamale contest ate 19 tamales in 2 minutes according to JD Flores' twitter.
Anthony J Reganato has emailed that he and Erik Unger were the first team to complete the Carnivore Challenge pizza at Big Pie in the Sky on April 16. Their time was 31 minutes. A gallery of the challenge is available.

The website for the Delaplane (VA) Strawberry Festival announces that the AICE National Strawberry Eating Championship will return on May 23. The contest has yet to be added to the AICE schedule.
Tomorrow's schedule for the French Quarter Festival. The Acme oyster eating contest will begin at noon at the Louisiana State Museum’s Old U.S. Mint.

College Station, Texas Wing Bowl May 6

The Arctic Wolf Ice Center in College Station, TX will hold a Wing Bowl on May 6. As in the Philadelphia Wing Bowl, entrants can qualify by winning a preliminary Wing Off contest or doing an on-radio eating stunt. The final Wing Off will take place tomorrow at Buffalo Wild Wings.

Man vs. Food one of Joba Chamberlain’s favorite shows

In an interview for LoHud.com, Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain says that Man vs. Food is one of his favorite TV shows (along with Fresh Prince of Bel Air reruns).

The Man vs. Food home page has been updated to say “Catch an all-new season of “Man v. Food” this summer”, which would be an earlier starting date for season 2 than the fourth quarter of 2009 the previous press release announced.

Go! Go! Curry! to hold NYC curry eating contest

(from fc2) Go! Go! Curry! in Manhattan is holding a curry eating contest this spring. The finals will take place on May 30 and qualifiers will be held on days ending in 0 or 5 until May 20. The first prize is a $500 American Express gift card and the registration fee is $20.

about the contest. Entrants in the qualifiers will try to consume 24 ounces of curry rice as quickly as possible and the final contest will last 15 minutes.
