I have uploaded the hot dog eating contest from last week’s episode of CSI: Las Vegas at CSIHotDogContest.wmv (13MB 5 min). The contest is sponsored The Extreme Eating Federation and has eaters based on Tim Janus, Carlene LeFevre, Cookie Jarvis and Sonya Thomas (who does not get an introduction). The Carlene LeFevre character wins the contest (or at least holds a trophy aloft at the end). The contest announcer repeats the defintion of a competitive eating situation involving cavemen and a rabbit given by the Sheas. (Despite all these similarities, some people would probably say that the EXEF paying a cash prize to the third place finisher of a hot dog qualifier would definitely place it in the realm of fiction)

Las Palapas 25th anniversary Macho Burrito contest results from Dan Calderón:
10 hungry hopefuls scarfed down two of Las Palapas’ famed Macho Burritos. The three fastest times were rewarded with checks for $1,000, $500 and $250.
Chris Flores, a 32-year-old San Antonio resident who lives near Helotes, won the top prize of $1,000 and set a new record by finishing his Macho Burritos in 68 seconds. Flores said it was his first eating contest.
Adolph Perez, a 19-year-old Converse resident who played right guard for the Judson High School football team last season, took the $500 second place prize. Perez, who is studying radiology at St. Philip’s College, took 1 minute, 15 seconds to finish the two one-pound burritos.
The $250 third-place prize went to San Antonio’s John Smavely, a 19-year-old construction worker with Handy Solutions. Smavely also was entering his first eating contest.

Congratulation to everyone for some amazing performances. The top three eaters beat their previous records by an amazing 28, 29 and 28 burgers. All eaters living someplace besides Northern Virginia at least tied his or her previous best. Kobayashi led most of the contest, but Joey was on his heels the entire way. For KSO IV, they should have signboards with three digits, at least for Kobayashi and Joey.
I am curious what happened with Sonya. She was in the 3rd position after a minute and a half with 22 and a significant gap between 4th, but she seemed to hit a wall at that point and fell out of the top five after three minutes so I am not sure what happened to her after that point.
I hope we do not have to wait seven months to see Kobayashi challenge the top American eaters. Kobayashi at the Wing Bowl would be an interesting possibility, but I assume he would want a more objectively judged contest with better crowd control.

The East Valley Tribune has an article about the Heart Attack Grill’s dispute with nursing organizations in which the owner of the restaurant, Jon Busso is quoted as saying “To say there is any massagany (sic) here is absolutely ridiculous”
It is somewhat difficult to accept the denial of misogyny in light of the restaurant’s blog entry for October 25:
The entire Grill was taken aback at the sight of this woman as she literally decimated a Quadruple Bypass Burger in front of our very eyes. Every macho man at the bar suddenly gave up his chauvinistic preconceptions of meat being a “man’s game” when she put us all to shame.
SADLY THOUGH, we found out that she was cheating! It turns out that she’s four months pregnant, so it’s obvious the little guy inside of her was helping her eat all that beef in record time. Our Quadruple Bypass Burger challenge is a sport of honor among gentlemen. Her cheating brought such disgrace to the Grill that we had to take her out back and work her over a bit. Hey, I know what you’re all thinking, but we confined our punches to the upper rib cage section to avoid the fetus. I mean we’re not Barbarians for Christ sakes!
Absolutely hilarious, if you find violence against pregnant women a laughing matter. The claims of male superiority in meat eating are difficult to accept given that Sonya Thomas is the only person to win the 9 pound Barrick Burger contest and Kate Stelnick and Lori Weiss are the only people to complete Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub’s 96er burger. Closer to the Grill, 115 pound Becky White of Tucson has completed the 72 ounce steak at the Big Texan Grill.
The nurses have put out a press release detailing their grievances against the restaurant.

The recipe for the 70+ lb. megaburger to be unveiled has apparently not been finalized and there is a $300 prize for naming it. Contest spectators are encouraged to bring at least $15 worth of groceries which will be used in care packages sent to overseas troops by Operation Shoebox.
The wayawesome blog has a picture of the Nanobite burger on top of a Mt. Olympus burger claiming that the burger patty weighs .4 oz, and the total weight is 1.4 oz, only .6 oz less than a Krystal / White Castle burger.

In a recent blog entry, megamunch had a list of suggestions for the MLE web site. One request was to keep track of the total money won for the year. It was not difficult to have the eatfeats database compute that automatically, so I have made a list of the top 10 money winners in the sidebar, based on the prize information I could find. Click on the name in the sidebar to see the breakdown. I have not been able to find prizes for all IFOCE and AICE contests. I only have the first place prize for the Fairfield rib contest and I can’t find any prize information for AICE Coney Island hamburgers or Italian sausage. You can modify the prizes in the database. The prizes do not take into account the list prices of non monetary prizes. If they did, Joey’s total would be about $20K higher due to the car he won at the Wing Bowl, and Burritos For Life winner Mike Shelley might be the overall leading money winner (the announced list price of the custom motorcycle he won is $62K)
