A video of the Garlicky Greens contest held at b.good won by Gretchen Salyer last month is available at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNUxC3I8mUM. The clip has more content from the “Lord of the Rings” movies than the actual contest and provides only brief glimpses of the victor. One brief segment (capture available after jump) shows that Ms. Salyer might be the first person to experience the “spinach sweats.” b.good has an online newsletter about the contest.

A Pat from Moonachie fan attended the meatball contest at the Tropicana and posted the following results to the Opie & Anthony message board:
3rd Place… Joey Chestnut
2nd Place… Sonya Thomas
1st Place… Bob ShoutSonya wouldn’t shake hands and walked off the stage, and looked like she was crying.
Bandlands Booker was the Judge who made the final decision.
If this report is accurate, Joey’s 7-8 month non Kobayashi winning streak has finished
updatedSome pictures of Pat & a few of Brian Seiken have been appended to the forum thread It is surprising that it has been over 5 hours since the contest ended and no one has any contest reports.
updated #2 iirraa has posted a flickr gallery of today’s contest (pictures above from that gallery)
updated #3 beautifulbrian.com has a video of the awards presentation. Bob was awarded the victory over Sonya due to excessive detritus. I could not hear any totals announced.
megamunch has a report and gallery about the 20 (actually 19) taco eating challenge he attempted with some friends.
Sonya Thomas is 16-1 in contests between New Jersey and North Carolina, with the only blemish on that record her controversial Wing Bowl 13 defeat. We will see if this home region advantage continues at the meatball contest at the Tropicana in Atlantic City on Saturday.
A clip of Natsuko “Gal” Sone attempting to eat 20 pounds (9 kg) of noodles is available at http://youtube.com/watch?v=iurH9hU7ODY She does not finish it, but her weight is found to have increased to 50 kg (110 lb) after being 43 kg (95 lb.) before starting.
Liz report that her redeye flight to JFK has been cancelled, preventing her from writing a report about the meatball contest at the Tropicana in Atlantic City.
A brief video clip of the mince pie eating contest at Wookey Hole Caves won by Sonya Thomas is available on youtube at http://youtube.com/watch?v=EIomf4Tjmno
Don “Moses” Lerman reports a drop in body mass to 227 lb. from 263 lb. last July. He intends to return to competition when his weight drops to 170 lb., which he projects will be in the spring of 2007.
Brooklyn Papers reports that the Astroland theme park in Coney Island has been sold to developers who intend to build a mini Las Vegas on the site. Tim Janus is quoted.
Pat “from Moonachie” Philbin will compete in an egg nog drinking contest on the Opie & Anthony show Friday (XM 202). Pat will also compete in the Atlantic City meatball contest on Saturday.
updated A Wackbag thread reports Pat won. His total and opponents are not listed.
updated #2 A rather gross post-contest video is available on youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjNaQm559Mw Watch at your own risk. forum thread with pictures
updated #3 A video capture of Pat’s reversal is after the jump if you are sure you want to see it
updated #4 The video has been removed from youtube due to terms of use violations. It can be seen at http://www.collegeslackers.com/video/592

The Wing Bowl page at philly.com has been updated with information about Wing Bowl 15. The page will have videos of qualifying stunts. The initial stunt performer will be Humble Joe?? on Monday.
The b.good website has a picture and brief article about Gretchen Salyer, who won the Garlicky Greens championship two weeks ago. If Ms. Salyer is a female impersonator, s/he is doing a much better job than “Helen Haggerty” 😉
updated boston.com has a paragraph about Gretchen’s victory, which states she ate 2.9 lbs. in five minutes. The Harvard article says she ate 2.73 lbs.
Wouldyouhitthis.com is taking bets (with virtual money) on the number of pounds eaten by the meatball contest winner. Betting closes tonight. The most bets are on 11 – 13 pounds.
Dec 1, MegaMunch 20 taco challenge, Harrisburg, PA, $5 (and cost of 20 tacos) entrance fee
Dec 2 Pizza eating contest, Home Slice Pizza, Austin TX, 30 minutes, prize is pizza for a year
Dec 8 Hard Boiled Egg Eating contest, The Locker, Marietta, OH, 1st prize is $100
Steakbellie’s qualifiying stunt attempt has been accepted by WIP. The parameters are:
2 Foot Wawa Hoagie
Half Gallon Lemonade
Small bag of chips
5 minutes 30 seconds
The stunt will be atttempted at 8:30 am on December 6
All residents of southeastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey are not eligible to attempt a Wing Bowl qualifying stunt or enter a Wing Off qualifier. The Wing Bowl rules have the following restriction:
The contest is open to all WIP listeners who are 21 years of age or older who reside in the Philadelphia metropolitan area – Philadelphia Metropolitan area as defined by Arbitron is the following counties: Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, counties in Pennsylvania; Camden, Gloucester, Mercer counties in New Jersey (the five contestants who are entered through the IFOCE’s automatic bids are exempted from the residence requirement).
A map of the region is available. (The map includes Burlington County, NJ, the largest in the map in New Jersey, which is not part of the Wing Bowl area.) This restricts residents of Allentown, Lancaster, Atlantic City and north Delaware from entering and shuts out Garden Staters Pat “from Moonachie” Philbin and Arturo Rios. Residents of Princeton / Trenton, NJ can enter (Mercer County) but the most famous eater from that area would be prohibited by the 21 age minimum in the minimal chance she wanted to enter.
The Chock full o’Nuts (Coffee) World Date Nut Bread Eating Championship, to be held December 20 in New York City, has been added to the IFOCE schedule. The purse is $5000.
Asbury Park Press has a brief preview of Saturday’s meatball contest in Atlantic City. Bob Shoudt, Chip Simpson, Tim Janus along with defending champion Sonya Thomas are listed as expected entrants. The most interesting part concerns who will MC the event:
The contest will be hosted by the “Jersey Guys†Craig Carton and Ray Rossi of NJ101.5, and they will be qualifying one winner through their radio show which airs Monday through Friday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Carton & Rossi have some previous competitive eating experience. They interviewed Kate Stelnick during her post-Denny’s media blitz.

Slashfood has a post on the two main formats for eating contests, fixed duration and fixed amount, focusing on the decision of the “World” Pie Eating contest to change from a three minute duration to awarding victory to the eater who can eat a single pie in the shortest amount of time.
The Krystal Square Off was not Kobayashi’s last contest of 2006. He will do a contest in Taiwan on Sunday.
Brian Seiken makes allegations against Dale Boone in a recent page on his website:
The Inqlings and Dan Gross column on philly.com have sections about Wing Bowl 15. Joey Chestnut, Sonya Thomas and Rich LeFevre are listed as three of the five out of towners. Former 76ers owner Pat Croce is rumored to be the next Wing Bowl commisioner. The current projected opening date for El Wingador’s restaurant is sometime in mid-December and it will have a grand opening the day of Wing Bowl 15.
