Angelo Cataldi has more information about Wing Bowl 15 in his new blog entry:
On November 27, the new theme (which will provide an advantage to locals at the expense of out of towners) will be announced and requests to perform qualifiying stunts will be taken.
On December 4 (the day of the Eagles/Panthers Monday Night Football game), tickets will go on sale and a new commissioner to replace the late Eric Gregg will be named. Tickets will still be $5 and the event will be held at the Wachovia Center on Feb 2 The prizes will reportedly be better than the previous year and better than any other competitive eating event in the US, meaning the purse value will have to exceed the $30,000 paid out in Krystal Square Off III.
There has been speculation that “Helen Haggerty”, listed as the runner-up in Saturday’s posole contest in New Mexico was a hoax given a lack of closeup pictures of her and any internet presence. Andrew Lane has posted a gallery of the contest with a picture of “Helen”. The picture in its original state is too dark to make out any facial features, but after playing with the brightness and contrast, the image on the left reveals “Helen” to clearly be Tim “Eater X” Janus.
I am quite upset by this incident and it will affect the future direction of eatfeats, but I am going to wait until I am better composed until I elaborate further.
(from R Suzuki) A website called “Gal Sone’s Love Mayo Diary” recently opened to promote her appearance in an eating contest sponsored by Aoki’s Pizza. The restaurant is offering a mayonnaise pizza in her honor. There is also a slideshow of her personal appearance at Aoki’s Pizza
(From Brian Seiken) A preview clip of Crazy Legs Conti’s upcoming appearance on Beautiful Brian’s TV show has been uploaded to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsV_v8xlcHA A shirtless Tim Janus makes a cameo. The clip can also be viewed at http://hometown.aol.com/beautifulbrian43/page16.html
Helen Haggerty has started a blog at helenhaggerty.blogspot.com with a short contest report. She is already looking forward to her next contest, so hopefully we will avoid a situation where an impressive competitive eating debut is followed by immediate retirement. Ms. Haggerty claims that playing college field hockey is responsible for her impressive performance.
Before this extended weekend started, you probably would not have expected that two novice women would win prizes in eating contests and both would be recent Seven Sisters graduates who competed in sports. Gretchen Salyer was a member of the Harvard / Radcliffe crew team.
John Stossel’s segment from Friday’s 20/20 about the controversial nursing outfits for the Heart Attack Grill’s waitresses can be viewed at http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=2662274
El Toro Jimenez continues to receive international publicity as the subject of a recent blog entry by Kobayashi. Kobayashi likes El Toro’s hairstyle.
From IFOCE com:
Sky City Posole contest results:
1. Pat Bertoletti, 146.25 oz.
2. Helen Haggerty, 138.75 oz., recent Bryn Mawr graduate
3. Rich LeFevre, 136 oz.
4. Erik “The Red” Denmark, 117 oz.
5. “Mongo” Marquez ?
6. William “Wild Bill” Myers
?. Andrew “Skinnyboy” Lane, almost 64 oz.
Ms. Haggerty’s performance is probably the most impressive debut for a woman in an IFOCE contest (and possibly the best performance by a newcomer for either gender) The only comparable female debut would be Sonya Thomas setting the American women’s record with 18 hot dogs at the Molly Pitcher travel plaza Nathan’s qualifier in 2003, but she did not defeat a top 10 and top 15 eater and almost beat the #3 ranked eater at that event.
All top 4 finishers beat Carlene LeFevre’s 2004 record of 109.75 oz., assuming the contests were the same length.
updatedAndrew Lane competed and has a brief blog entry. He will have a longer report later.
updated #2 miningjournal.net has an article about Matt “Foracious” Forss which claims he will in the posole contest.
The episode of Cheap Seats using footage from the 2004 Nathan’s finals will be rerun at 4pm eastern on ESPN Classic. Cheap Seats will not appear on ESPN Classic after tomorrow, so this is your last chance to see it.
from AICE news

4. Derek “Wing Tut” Payne 49.25
DQ Tom “Goose” Gilbert, 80 but did not finish all the milk
Canadian Back Bacon & Bun
1. Tom “Goose” Gilbert, 7.5 6oz sandwiches
2. Lew “The Chew” Porchiazzo, 6.5
3. Mark “The Human Vacuum” Lyle, 5.67
4. Derek “Wing Tut” Payne 5
If Yao Wing intends to compete in Wing Bowl 15, he should probably update yaowing.com, or at least remove the cartoon on the home page, before he attempts his stunt.
I attempted to make some video captures of Kobayashi’s TV Funhouse appearance but did not post them since the youtube video quality was too low. abcdane has succeeded in making a blog entry with some captures. I wonder if the eater to the left of animated Kobayashi at Nathan’s is based on an actual eater. He probably looks the most like Bob Shoudt among Nathan’s finals participants.
Adrian Liloni has written a blog entry in Italian about Sonya Thomas (there is also some content about other IFOCE members as well) The author has apparently requested an interview from Sonya.
Justin Mih might have a female competitive eating counterpart in the Harvard community. The Harvard Crimson reports that Gretchen Salyer, a 2005 graduate, won the garlicky greens eating contest at b.good in Cambridge by eating 2.73 pounds of vegetables in 5 minutes, defeating last year’s champion John Pepper. Ms. Salyer is a former member of the Harvard/Radcliffe crew team.
(from kmikeym) A set of the magnets of the 2006 Nathan’s finalists made by Liz & Krista and praised by Kobayashi are for sale on ebay. The funds will go towards Liz’s travel expenses to cover contests, so the more you bid, the more contest writeups will appear on urbanhonking.com
The Heart Attack Grill reports that it will be the subject of John Stossel’s “Give Me a Break” segment on 20/20 tonight. 20/20 will start at 9pm instead of the usual 10pm airtime.
A brief clip of the competitive eating category in Jeopardy with an answer about Cookie Jarvis can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ob_Ny7qc7V0
With the biggest Canadian eating contest this weekend, I reposted the start of a blog entry that was originally on the Montreal Expos website in 2002. The blog entry describes a public access cable show on Ottawa cable that starred a woman named Celeste who would eat a large meal during the broadcast. The entry is in all probability a joke, but in the minor chance it was an actual program, I thought I would see if anyone had any additional information about it.
The start of the blog entry is after the jump

The Gallup Independent has a preview of Saturday’s posole eating contest at the Sky City Casino in Acoma, NM. Joey Chestnut, Pat Bertoletti and Erik “the Red” Denmark are listed as expected entrants. The article says the contest might be recorded for Japanese television.

(from urbanhonking.com/liz comment) YesButNoButYes has a page with at least 10 eating contest youtube videos embedded in it. Both IFOCE and independent contests are represented. There is a clip of Ian Hickman at the Whoopie Pie Eating Contest that I had not seen before.
