Don “Moses” Lerman in the Wing Bowl

Don “Moses” Lerman has a blog entry about his history in the Wing Bowl and his negative experience in Wing Bowl 13. Lerman’s difficulty in entering the arena in that event is mentioned on page 185 of “Horsemen of the Esophagus” by Jason Fagone:

The media-door supplicants aren’t all pretenders. Some are even participants, like Mr. IFOCE himself, George Shea, his neatly slicked hair and sharp suit putting the Philly mooks to shame. Butter champ Don Lerman is here, too. I’m standing right next to him. I know it’s Don Lerman because it says so on his wool hat.

Jewish Exponent on Dave “US Male” Goldstein

The Jewish Exponent has an article about Dave “US Male” Goldstein who finished in the top five of Wing Bowl 15. Goldstein’s qualifying stunt was eating letters, which he accomplished by eating pancakes shaped like letters of the alphabet instead of paper items.

Most readers of this website will probably disagree with the following paragraph (and one will definitely beg to differ):

Goldstein now becomes arguably the best Jewish Wing Bowl competitor, surpassing 2002’s “Lord of the Wings” Alix Friedman and last year’s “Hungry, Hungry Hebrew” Adam Taxin, who both failed to make it to the second round when they competed.

Dog food eating in “Good Times”

There is at least one instance of dog food eating predating Don “Moses” Lerman’s Wing Bowl qualifying stunt. It was in one of the episodes of the second season of the 1970s sitcom “Good Times”

In one of the second season’s comic centerpieces, the Evans family avoids eating a neighbor’s meatloaf because they think it’s made with dog food. The scene is played as hilarious farce, but the acknowledgment of a poor old woman living on dog food gives the sequence an underlying bite.

MosesNews.com has a post about the dog food controversy
