Wayne Algenio will face off against World's Strongest Man Eddie Hall in an eating contest on an episode of "Eddie Eats America" that will be televised on the UK channel Dave on Sunday. The competition was recorded at Mac Shack NY, whose owner Kevin "BlaccLyte" James recently passed away.

The New York Post has an article about Englishwoman Charna Rowley quitting her job to focus on a youtube channel (currently at 3,040 subscribers) in which she eats meals containing up to 5,500 calories. Boy George,former lead singer of the Culture Club, was unimpressed by the the career decision.

Today is the 50th anniversary of a conversation about a porridge eating contest between mission control and the crew of Apollo 11:

Bruce McCandless in Houston: And in Corby, England, an Irishman, John Coyle, has won the world’s porridge eating championship by consuming 23 bowls of instant oatmeal in a 10-minute time limit from a field of 35 other competitors. Over.

Astronaut Michael Collins: I’d like to enter Aldrin in the oatmeal eating contest next time.

McCandless: Is he pretty good at that?

Collins: He’s doing his share up here.

McCandless: Let’s see. You all just finished a meal not long ago, too, didn’t you?

Aldrin: I’m still eating.

McCandless: Okay. Does that — that —

Collins: He’s on his — He’s on his 19th bowl.

A recording of the conversation was used in a commercial for Quaker Oats UK starring Buzz Aldrin.

TheAthletic.com has an article (mostly behind a paywall) about Birgit Felden's victory in the 1984 Nathan's finals, the only time a female has had the highest overall total in a July 4 contest. She is now a professor of business in Berlin.
