In other Las Vegas television news, Amy Carraba of Fox 5 news is taking applications to be her rival at the Nathan’s qualifier at the New York New York casino on Thursday. George Shea’s twitter reports that other competitors at that event will be Rich LeFevre, Ron Koch and El Toro.

Nathan’s 2009 qualifier registration opens at noon eastern

Registration for the 2009 Nathan’s qualifiers is supposed to open in an hour on NathansFamous.com. The website does announce that registration will open today, but that appears to be the only noticeable update at this time; the 2008 qualifier schedule is still listed.

udpate The registration page now lists the cities and sites (but not the dates) of the 2009 qualifiers. Registrants can only select two qualifier sites, one of which can be a contest on Coney Island:

CE News: possible new Nathan’s stops

CE News has an unsourced email claiming Denver, Tampa, Allentown and Biloxi are possible new sites for Nathan’s qualifiers in 2009. The official schedule is expected out in a week or more.

New poll: Kobayashi in 2009 Nathan’s finals

The new poll asks if you think whether Kobayashi should receive a bye to this year’s Nathan’s finals and if he deserves travel expenses if you believe he merits an automatic invitation to Coney Island.

In more Nathan’s news, this column credits William “The Refrigerator” Perry’s participation in the 2003 contest with making the Nathan’s finals the Super Bowl of competitive eating.

Coney Island benefit auction tonight

An auction will be held tonight at Rebel NYC to benefit Coney Island USA. George Shea will be honored for his efforts with Nathan’s hot dog eating contest and a judgeship for the 2009 Nathan’s finals is one of the items that will be auctioned off.

Nathan’s judgeship up for auction

The Kinetic Carnival blog reports that a benefit auction will be held for the Coney Island USA cultural arts organization on November 3. A Nathan’s judgeship will be one of the items up for auction. George Shea will be a special guest and tickets will be $40. The dress code is “sideshow chic”. Tickets can be purchased online.
