Gothamist reports that walk-on competitors will be accepted at tomorrow's pickle eating contest at the Carnegie Deli. The blog entry also says that Guardian Angel founder Curtis Sliwa is the contest record holder with a total of 3.8 ponds.
Qualifying is closed for the 2011 Go! Go! Curry! eating contest and the competitors in the May 28 finals have been announced. Joe Menchetti, Will Millender and Dave Goldstein had the top three times.

The MLE facebook has a roster for tomorrows salt potato eating contest in Baldwinsville, NY listing Joey Chestnut, Pat Bertoletti, Bob Shoudt, Tim Janus, Juliet Lee, Badlands Booker, Micah Collins, Pete Davekos, Crazy Legs Conti, Brian Dudzinski, Bill Myers and Josh Snow. Sonya Thomas is not listed even though she appeared in the previous list of competitors.

Kobayashi calls IFOCE contract a “slave contract”
AOL Weird News has an article about Takeru Kobayashi being removed from the Nathan’s “Wall of Fame” which includes the following statement from Kobayashi via his translator Maggie James:
By not signing their contract, they will erase you from the wall. They are not deep about the spirit of history. They do as they wish. They are not presenting a contract that protects the league as a whole. They only present individual slave contracts which control each player in their category of value. Nothing protects the sport.

The current standings for the contest at Go! Go! Curry! in New York City have been posted on the restaurant's website. Tsuyoshi Shiina is the current leader with a time of 1:44. Qualifiers will be held today and on May 10 and 15.

NY Daily News reports that Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa has announced that he has prostate cancer and will undergo surgery this week. Sliwa competed in the Nathan's finals several times in the 1990's and finished third in 1994.

This year's Go! Go! Curry! eating championship has been announced. Qualifiers will be held on days ending in 0 or 5 until May 15. The finals on May 28 will award a $500 Visa gift card.
