Neither are the presence of Kobayashi and Joey Chestnut so overwhelming that you know what they are capable of doing until they begin eating. Different people have different talents and focus on different things I guess.
If there’s one important lesson that I have learnt and reminded of, it is that you just have to be really good at one thing and show it to the world that you are great at it. If you don’t show your stuff, no one knows, no one cares, one is just a face in the crowd.

Columnist opts for mock Joey Chestnut interview instead of real one
The Daily News Online has a preview of Sunday’s rib eating contest at Chinook Winds Casino in Oregon. The columnist, Rick S. Alvord, turned down an offer from the casino:
The fine folks at the casino told me to call them if I had a craving to interview Chestnut. Yeah, well, my career hasn’t deteriorated to that point yet, but thanks anyway.
For some reason, I think I already know what he’d say …
A mock Joey Chestnut interview follows. (Perhaps the real Joey Chestnut could have informed the author that the Wing Bowl does not take place at night)

Tualatin crawfish contest article
TigardTimes.com has an article about the Tualatin crawfish contest, which requires that competitors eat the meat in the claws:
But in Tualatin, the claws are an intricate piece of the flavored tradition of the Crawfish Eating Contest. Cotton Scheckla, 80, stills holds the Tualatin crawfish-eating record from 1970 when he ate 170 crawdads – tails and claws – in 15 minutes.
Scheckla, now a retired longshoreman and Newberg resident, admits using his teeth to crack open the claws wasn’t a smart idea. After spending three weeks picking shells out of his bleeding gums, Scheckla had to get his teeth capped. His dentist and family weren’t happy with his style of eating, but still it was the best technique Scheckla had for the fast-paced competition.

Report from Chinook Winds amateur competitor
Barton Grover Howe, an entrant in the rib eating contest for amateurs at the Chinook Winds casino last Saturday, wrote an article for the Newport (OR) News Times about his experience.
It’s been several days since my non-epic moments as a “gustatory gladiator,” as the announcer put it. I’m still vaguely nauseous, and as to that same announcer’s statement that competitive eating is part of the, “evolution of sport,” all I can say is Darwin would probably not put this on his resume.
But given America’s – ahem – appetite for competition, I see why this appeals to people. Indeed, if you were to combine speed eating and NASCAR you could end up with someone throwing up on Jeff Gordon.
That would makes millions of fans in both sports ecstatic.
