IFOCE.com announces that an 8 minute jalapeno pepper eating contest will be held at the Texas State Fair on October 8. Will Don “Moses” Lerman come out of retirement to compete in his speciality?
The Salt Lake City weekly has a report from the goldenpalace.net Italian Sausage contest held at the Utah State Fair. The author competed in the event and finished last.
Much to my surprise, an IFOCE-sponsored eating competition is exciting. I’ll probably never again be introduced to the heavy beat of Eminem’s 8 Mile theme. The music swelled louder and louder until finally LeFevre, Bertoletti and Chestnut took their places center stage. On the way past, Bertoletti touched fists and wished me “good luck.†I’d need it.
Hall “Hoover” Hunt has some pictures from the Jacksonville Krystal qualifier in his flickr gallery.
Krystalsquareoff.com announces that Tim “Eater X” Janus and Chip “Burger” Simpson are expected at the Atlanta qualifier. This will be the first matchup of top 10 ranked eaters in a qualifier. Loren “Bubba” Yarbrough and Paul “BoneBreaker” Barlow are among the expected entrants representing Georgia. The contest could see the return of the mystery eater who reportedly gave Joey Chestnut and Sonya Thomas everything they could handle at the waffle eating contest before DQing.
Updated 3:07 pm – The preliminaries will be held throughout the Atlanta area and will start tomorrow at the Georgia Tech football stadium:
September 21 Georgia Tech Football 4:00 PM – 10:00 PM
September 22 Southlake Mall 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM
September 23 Cumberland Mall 12:00 PM – 7:00 PM
September 24 Local Finals–Lenox Square 3:00 PM – 3:30 PM
krystal-lovers has a post responding to the criticism of the webcam The main issue appears to be that the wireless internet provider they are using does not have sufficient upload speed.
(Thanks Liz & Anita) The Greeley (CO) Tribune has a report about Saturday’s jalapeno eating contest. The winner, Jerry Esparza, ate 58 peppers in 10 minutes and had to skip the awards ceremony because he was tending to more pressing affairs.
(Thanks Brian Seiken) Slashfood has a post with currently 100 comments about the death in the “Chubby Bunny” marshmallow stuffing contest in Canada last week.
The Fenway park area will not enjoy a baseball championship in the autumn of 2006, but it will host an eating champion. IFOCE.com announces that Takeru Kobayashi will compete in a lobster roll eating contest at the Phantom Gourmet Food Festival in Boston this Saturday. (The festival has already sold out) Kobayashi will compete against a team of four amateurs whose total will be combined. The contest is apparently closed to all other competitors.
Kobayashi has an entry about the lobster roll contest in his blog which mentions Rona Conti.

Users can now add or modify results in the database. Click on the “Add Results” or “Edit Results” button on a contest’s page to add or modify results. Changes must be approved before they show up in the main database. I want to add the capability for users to add new contests and for registered users changes to not require approval in the near future.
If official contest records do not exist, I will generally record whatever an eater claims. Any controversy about a result will be listed in the results comment field.
