Conti predicts Brian Seiken to win Civil Service qualifier

Crazy Legs Conti has a column on competitiveeating.net which predicts that Brian Seiken will qualify for Nathan’s at the qualifier restricted to civil service workers at the South Street Seaport.

That’s right, Beautiful Brian is going to Coney as the 2007 Civil Service champ. Could it be that in his tenth year of competing Beautiful Brian will walk the catwalk of Stillwell Ave and ascend the grand stage at Coney Island for his debut at the finals? If the stars and spreadsheets align, on June 27th, Double B will rock the Civil Service contest as the lyrical stylings of Stephen Morrissey blare from the speakers. “ Please, Please, Please, Let me get what I want. Lord knows it would be the first time.”

Gal Sone enters the Interview Room

galsoneint1.jpg galsoneint2.jpg galsoneint3.jpg

(from R Suzuki) Natsuko “Gal” Sone is the subject of a Japanese web page called the “Interview Room” (Part 2)

Some facts from that interview:

The qualifier for the fall 2005 Gluttonous King contest was her first experience in competitive eating
Her older sister eats about as much as she does in everyday meals.
She wants to continue to cross over into show business and hopes to dance as well as sing
She ran on her high school cross country team and has continued distance running. She recently ran 20km (12.5 miles)
I believe she was kicked off the cross country team after dying her hair (I am not sure I am interpreting that sentence correctly)
She is afraid to run alone in Tokyo.

Heart Attack Grill in entrepreneur.com

(from heartattackgrill.com) There is an article about the Heart Attack Grill and its owner, “Dr.” John Basso, in entrepreneur.com:

His advice for wannabe entrepreneurs? “I’d tell people to create controversy,” suggests Basso, who refers to himself as the Patch Adams of the restaurant industry. Though he won’t release any financial information, Basso insists that word-of-mouth marketing has given the grill plenty of business. “What I’ve got, in marketing terms, is the purple cow,” he says. “We’ve designed something that people talk about naturally. We’ve never spent one penny, and never will spend one penny on advertisements. We simply have a website, and that’s it.”

Erik Denmark on his mother

Erik “The Red” Denmark has a tribute to his mother on his blog:

I am coming back to competitive eating soon and I still have very high expectations for myself this year. I will dedicate any and all of my successes and victories this year to the memory of my Mom. She was the first to feed me and she fed me a lot.

I think I can speak for the competitive eating community in saying that it mourns the loss of Erik’s mother and looks forward to seeing Erik back at the table.
