Steakbellie has a post-contest report without results. He will appear on the next two programs today and tomorrow. I am assuming they will be recorded at Fremont Street in the evening and be open to the public, but I have not been able to find any official information.
Megamunch has a blog entry about his thoughts on the selection process. (No results in entry, but winner is mentioned in the comments)
The event is somewhat like English soccer. There are two divisions and the top finishers in the lower division move up, while the bottom dwellers in the higher division move down.
The air times for the program recorded yesterday are
No Episode Title Competitive eaters go against the clock to see who can eat the most Buffalo Wings and potato wedges.
SPIKETV Thu 10/18 11:00 PM
SPIKETV Sat 10/20 7:00 PM
The times for the next two shows have not been announced.

ojrifkin · More posts about:Health, Juris Shibayama, Nashville, Other IFOCE members
(From Dr Big Time) An article on Dr. Juris Shibayama appears in the Nashville Medical News:
Throughout medical school, Shibayama competed in body building. While he doesn’t have the time for that anymore, he’s up at 5 a.m. for an elliptical workout daily and lifts three or four times a week. His best bench press was an impressive 500 pounds when he was 22. “I got it on videotape, because I knew I’d never be able to do it again,†he said.
Shibayama approaches competitive eating with a similar drive, preparing for last month’s competition by expanding his stomach. When training first began, he could drink a gallon of water in about six minutes, “and I felt terrible for like an hour. But now I’m to the point where I can drink it in 45 seconds, and I feel pretty good after about two or three minutes,†he said. Once he mastered that, he would drink a gallon of water in the parking lot of an all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant, and then head inside to eat all he could eat.

Steakbellie will compete in the “Wedges & Wings” contest in Las Vegas tonight. He verifies that Kobayashi is present. Steakbellie reports that three separate TV specials will be recorded at the same session, which will fulfill the Spike TV contract.
I think this leaves 6 unknown slots in the contest.

The Japan Times has an article about Japanese competitors who do well in contests outside Japan. Kobayashi is mentioned in addition to air guitarists, yo-yo performers, tango dancers and others.
Most famously, of course, is Mr. Takeru Kobayashi, known as “The Tsunami” for his ability to engulf hot dogs. For six solid years in a row, Mr. Kobayashi ate the most hot dogs at the annual Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island, New York.
Chomping down hot dogs cannot really compare to the skill and talent of playing Tchaikovsky, and is clearly not a long-term career choice, but there are few in Japan who did not feel a twinge of disappointment when reading that Joey “Jaws” Chestnut beat Mr. Kobayashi at this year’s contest. National pride could perhaps never be firmly based on “competitive eating,” but there are much worse sources of pride, after all.

Kobayashi’s blog reports that he got a new hairstyle and is not sure when he will be able to update his blog, so he will probably attend.
STBW says that October will be a “very very light month” CE-wise for Sonya, so she will probably not attend.

ProWrestling.com reports on a pizza eating contest between MVP and Matt Hardy on the recent WWE pay per view:
MVP guarantees he’s going to win this competition. Tazz goes over the rules. He says they have two minutes to eat as much pizza as they can. They set the time, and they are off.
Time expires and MVP didn’t even eat one pie. Matt Hardy ate two. After the competition Matt Hardy threw up on MVP and left.
Maybe Pat Phibin can sue the WWE for violating his intellectual property 😉

(From Steakbellie) In this week’s Sports Illustrated, Rick Reilly interviewed Joey Chestnut in the all you can eat seats at Dodger Stadium, where he set the record by eating 25 hot dogs. Joey says he once ate a bone in a chicken wing eating contest after he did not receive credit for cleaning all the meat. Joey said he will receive $3,000 for appearing at a bar mitzah.
The column is not available online, it is mentioned in a comment to this blog entry.
The Belo Blog has an interview with Joey Chestnut which closes with the following question:
Q. Now that you’ve set the hot dog record, what are your goals?
That was my goal for like two years. I haven’t set a new one yet. I’m hoping something will come up or a challenger will start beating me so I can try to beat them.

(From NYMag) The Norwood News has an article about Saturday’s black and white cookie eating contest in the Bronx.
“Everyone out there knows I dominated that competition,” the Mouth shouted in a surprisingly high, nasal southern twang, his lips red and chapped. “They wanted their own people to win.”
“They” are the Association of Independent Competitive Eaters (AICE), which organized the cookie battle. To promote their regular eaters (guys like Hickman) Boone claims the organizers rigged the count. The Mouth said he ate at least 15 cookies.
Boone is notorious for claiming victory and making a scene, Hickman said. It’s just what he does, like a pro wrestler’s trademark leg lock.
In the end, the Invader happily put his $500 check, plus a half dozen extra cookies, into his backpack and headed home. As for the Mouth, he eventually settled down, gave his half to his mama, and walked off to the thumping of Latin hip hop.

In a recent comment Carey Poehlmann mentioned the lawsuit of seven poker professionals against the World Poker Tour as being analogous to a possible case against the IFOCE. The World Poker Tour’s wikipedia page describes the suit:
On July 19, 2006, seven poker professionals sued WPTE, alleging violations of the Sherman Antitrust Act, the California Cartwright Act, and intentional interference with contract (Complaint and Response). The professionals (Chris Ferguson, Andy Bloch, Annie Duke, Joe Hachem, Phil Gordon, Howard Lederer, and Greg Raymer) allege that WPTE’s standard release forms, required for participation in WPTE events, are anti-competitive and designed to interfere with their contractual obligations to other companies. The anti-competition claim is based on the fact that WPTE’s contracts with the casinos that host its tournaments bar those casinos (and other casinos owned by the same parent companies) from hosting non-WPTE poker events. The claim of interference with contract is based on the releases’ claim to perpetual rights to the players’ likenesses for any use WPTE wishes. The players claim that this would put them in violation of other contracts (such as Ferguson’s Activision Games contract or several players’ contracts with online poker sites).
The suing poker players have set up a web site at http://wptlawsuit.com/ The last action in the case was a request for summary judgement made in March.
Unlike the IFOCE, the World Poker Tour does not limit its members solely to its own events; they are allowed to do non-WPT tournaments such as the World Series of Poker.
