New poll: preferred Nathan’s rookie

The new poll asks what eater currently ranked in the IFOCE top 50 who has been competing since at least 2006 and has never made the Nathan’s finals would you most like to see appear on the Coney Island stage. (If I missed anyone who meets these criteria, I will add him to the poll)

July 3 Coney Island Humans vs. elephants eating contest

(Via eater) The Brooklyn Papers reports that Coney Island will host a hot dog bun eating contest between three unnamed humans and three elephants from the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus on July 3. George Shea has the following quote:

“When most people see elephants, they see the majesty of nature. To me, I see an arrogant animal that needs to be taken down a notch,” said an unabashedly pro-human Shea.


Comedienne Lily Tomlin protested
the elephants’ Coney Island appearance before the eating contest was announced.

Beer & Bourbon baked beans contest

The writer of the web page about the baked bean contest to be held at the Beer and Bourbon Festival at National Harbor, Maryland (suburban Washington, DC) appears ignorant that two of the world’s top competitive eaters are DC-area women:

Pinnacle Sports has started accepting bets on whether Joey Chestnut or Kobayashi will eat more hot dogs and if the overall winner will eat 60.5 hot dogs.
Levi Oliver has an interview on youtube in which he provides tips for competitors in the raw onion eating contest to be held at the Texas Testosterone Festival on August 9.

Filipino 7-11s to hold hot dog eating contest

7-11 stores in the Philippines will hold a hot dog eating contest this summer. Competitors can attempt to qualify at their local 7-11 on the qualifying dates. The grand prize is 500,000 Philippine pesos ($10,360)

update The contest website is at http://eatingmachinesphilippines.com/. The contest rules do not appear to explicitly require Filipino citizenship. A promotional video of a match beteween Dicky Fellow (a woman) and Katarina Haligi is available.

Fish Tales in Ocean City, Maryland will hold another hot dog eating contest on July 4. Last year' contest awarded $1000. The 2009 prize is no listed listed.
The official Man vs. Food twitter reports the next two sites will be San Francisco and Oahu.

Jimmy Johns sandwich makers vs. eaters in Detroit Saturday

Also, sure to draw a crowd on Saturday, June 20 at the Michigan Lottery Stage is the Jimmy John’s Freaky Fast Sandwich and Making Contest at 2 p.m. The contest will feature three of the fastest sandwich makers going head-to-head again three World Class Major League Eaters to see who is faster. Major League Eaters are infamous for gobbling down hot dogs and chicken wings on TV. Jimmy John’s believes they have they fastest sandwich makers around, what better way to prove it?

An email from Craig Reed reports that the three eaters will be Pat Bertoletti, Hall Hunt and Tim Brown.
