(from Eating Ed email) The online Hall of Fame for Big Pie in the Sky (Kennesaw, GA) has been updated to report that Paul Barlow was one of the members of the second team to defeat the Carnivore Challenge.
The Fairbanks, Alaska Daily News Miner has an article about Roy Harding Katairoak, who first won the muktuk eating competition at the World Eskimo-Indian Olympics in 1972 and has won numerous times since then. (He did not win this year's contest)

Apollo 11 & oatmeal eating contest

According to The First Men in the Moon, the winner of an oatmeal eating contest (John Coyle from Ireland w/23 bowl in 10 minutes) was one of the earthside news items relayed to the crew of Apollo 11. Michael Collins responded that he would like to enter Buzz Aldrin in the next oatmeal eating contest (via http://twitter.com/AP11_SPACECRAFT/)

El Wingador vs. Canseco (& KFC commercial) information

NJ.com has information about the July 24 bout between Bill “El Wingador” Simmons and Jose Canseco sanctioned by the Celebrity Boxing Federation. The fight will take place at the Ice Works in Ashton, PA. Sugar Ray Leonard Jr. will fight on the undercard. Tickets are $45 ringside / $30 general admission and the fight will consist of three one minute rounds. The official website for Celebrity Boxing has yet to be updated with any new information.

NJ.com also reports that El Wingador will star in a Kentucky Fried Chicken commercial with 4 other unnamed competitive eaters. Documentarian Errol Morris, who has produced other commercials for KFC, posted about meeting El Wingador on his twitter. The advertisement is expected to debut on the west coast on July 26.

update It will be interesting to see who are the other four eaters appearing with “El Wingador”. The date of the filming in Los Angeles was apparently July 2, same as the Nathan’s weigh-in.

Coastal Sussex reports that The Starboard in Dewey Beach, Delaware will hold its annual wing contest on Sunday. The winner will receive $500 and the top female will be awarded $200.
Charlotte on the Cheap has a list of the Bruster's locations that will host an ice cream contests on Sunday. The contests will be 3 minutes long.
Timothy O'Toole's in Chicago will have a wing eating contest tomorrow. The winner will get two tickets into the 2010 WingFest and a slot in the wing eating contest at WingFest.
The Village Voice has an interview with Adam Lippin, the founder of Atomic Wings, who will sponsor a Coney Island wing eating contest on Saturday.

Ken Hoffman on judging Davekos

Ken Hoffman of the Houston Chronicle has a column about serving as Pete Davekos’ judge in the recent Nathan’s finals which reports that officials were told to look out for hidden regurgitation:

“The thing you have to look for,” the head judge told us, “is when the eaters hold a big cup of water to their mouth. Some of the eaters have been spitting hot dogs into the cup, and some have been vomiting in the cup. That’s against the rules, and they have to be penalized.”

The new poll asks when will the Nathan's finals have its next female champion. Birgit Felden in 1984 is the most recent woman to win the contest.
A video of the La Costena jalapeno eating contest won by Domenico Alesi held in Chicago on July 5 is available. Competitors had to open their mouth to show they finished their previous pepper before starting on the next.
