Taco Del Mar to have 5 pound burrito challenge May 5

All Taco Del Mar locations will offer a five pound burrito on May 5. Customers who complete the burrito without assistance in under 30 minutes will receive a $20 gift certificate.

Houston gyros entrants listed before registration opens

IFOCE.com reports the 2009 Niko Niko’s World Gryo-Eating Championship will be held on May 16 in Houston and registration will begin today at 3pm eastern. The contest page already lists four expected entrants (Joey Chestnut, Pat Bertoletti, Bob Shoudt, Erik Denmark) even though registration has not officially opened.

The Prairie News: The Big Texan will hold a 72 ounce steak eating contest next year to celebrate its 50th birthday. The contest will have professional and non-professional divisions which will both award $10,000 to the winner.

Joey Chestnut 3rd on Big Wallie Wall of Fame

Wallie’s Diner in Tracy, California has set up a web page about its “Big Wallie” burger challenge. The burger is almost 3 pounds and is free if finished in under 15 minutes. Joey Chestnut is #3 on the list of fastest finishers. The top 2 times are from 1999.

Wallie’s Diner also offers a 6 and 9 pound burger. A video of the 9 pound “Extreme Wallie” is available on Fox 40’s website.

WLOCE announces Bangalore idli contest May 16

The WLOCE website has been updated to announce that an idli contest will take place in Bangalore, India on May 16. WLOCE will also sanction the July 4 Apple Ugly Eating contest in North Carolina and the purse for its contest at Corndogorama will be $875.

NY Mag's Grub Street: Tim “Eater X” Janus, Crazy Legs Conti & Pete “Pretty Boy” Davekos will attempt to eat a 36 foot taco on May 5 at Zocalo in Grand Central Station.
The qualifier leader board on http://gogocurryusa.com/ has been updated and lists Paul Arcaria as the new leader with a time of 55 seconds. Don Lerman is in second place.

AICE rankings have been updated. The most significant change is that “Gentleman” Joe Menchetti is no longer listed. He was #4 in the previous rankings.
