A new eating challenges website with a Connecticut focus has started at http://bestfoodchallenges.com/ The corresponding facebook page uses Dave Shoffner's steak picture as its avatar.
Youtube has a video of Everett Heiden eating the Meltdown challenge, containing over 4 pounds of ice cream, at Scoops in Mountville, PA (the previous record was 17:51). He also set a record of 2:38 in the Diggity Dog challenge at Hot Diggity Dog in Lancaster.

The New York Times science section has an article about how humans enjoy eating spicy peppers.
Michelle "Cardboard Shell" has a blog entry about being the first person to complete the Sugar OD challenge, consisting of 4 brownies, 4 pieces of cheesecake and 4 scoops of ice cream, at Something Sweet Dessert Lounge in Tucson. Tucscon Weekly produced a video of the "award ceremony" and the restaurant facebook page has a gallery.

Rocco's Tacos in West Palm Beach, FL will award $250 on October 1 to the customer who has eaten the most tacos on Tuesdays.
Bill Cammack has a video about the burger challenge at Smashiess Grocery in East Harlem which requires a diner to eat a one pound burger in under 5 minutes
Matt Stonie has uploaded his videos of his Manimal and Monster Manimal challenges at the Trade Winds Cafe in Arundel, Maine.
Maria "The Incredible Sulk" reports that she set the record for the Land Lubber's BBQ challenge at Port Royal Grille in Islip, NY, the site of Adam Richman's seafood challenge in the Long Island episode of Man vs. Food.
The facebook page for Batter Up Pancakes in Fresno reports that Matt Stonie was the second person finished the Grand Slam Challenge with a time of under 10 minutes. The only other previous finisher required over 40 minutes.
There will be two attempts at challenges which have never been completed today. Randy Santel will attempt the Ultimate Destroyer BBQ sandwich seen in the Kansas City episode of Man vs. Food and Scott Bickel will try to finish the 7 pound Dumpster burger at Cleats in Westlake, Ohio.
Toronto Sports Magazine has an article about an attempt at the 67 ounce steak challenge at Real Sports Bar and Grill which includes a pound of fries and a pound of cole slaw.
BuffaloBills.com announces that a 40 ounce steak eating contest between Bills fans and Green Bay Packer supporters will take place tomorrow at Prime Quarter in Green Bay.
There is now another notable Mallory from Ohio in addition to Justine Bateman's character on Family Ties. In a column for the Bowling Green student newspaper about competitive eating, Amanda McGuire Rzicznek mentions that Mallory Roe, won $666 by eating 6 gyros in under an hour (gallery) at South Side 6.
Stephanie Wu has updated her website with reports on her recent trip to upstate California which included a slider eating contest and 5 pound burger challenge in Redding and the famous pancake challenge in Seiad Valley.
Randy Santel and Dan Graham have set up a facebook page to document their midwestern eating challenges called Atlas & Zeus Promotions.
Pointers Pizza facebook reports that Rick & Ryan were the first set of twins to complete the Pointersaurus Pizza challenge on September 11. Previous pairs of relatives to complete the challenge include sisters Pam & Jennifer Cooney and Dale & Cathy Boone.

Anyone Can Enter has a blog entry and video about the pepper eating contest held at the NC Hot Sauce Contest in Oxford, North Carolina. William Smith, a wheelchair-bound 60 year old with false teeth, won the contest.
