The facebook page for Man vs. Food: Nation requests that fans submit pictures of eating challenges they have attempted. The best pictures will appear on the Travel Channel website. Submissions are due by September 30.

Regis Philbin refereed 1963 eating contest featuring Ernie Ladd

The MLE facebook announces that Pat Bertoletti, Tim Janus and Crazy Legs Conti will attempt to break the record for banana eating on tomorrow’s episode of Live with Regis & Kelly.

Regis Philbin had previous involvement with competitive eating before the debut of Live with Regis & Kelly. In 1963, he served as a referee for an eating contest between San Diego Charger defensive lineman / pro wrestler Ernie “Big Cat” Ladd and Nick Cordileone. Pat Bertoletti will stay in New York City and compete in Thursday’s cannoli contest in an attempt to obtain his 36th record. Eric “Badlands” Booker and Maria “Edible” have also been announced as entrants.

Naader Reda will attempt the Brahma Bull tri-tip sandwich challenge in San Luis Obispo in tomorrow's episode of Man v. Food: Nation featuring restaurants on the Pacific Coast Highway.
The Albany Times Union reports that John Lomascolo defeated Randy Santel and three other finalists in Man v. Food: Nation's casting call contest and will attempt an eating challenge on an upcoming episode.

Randy Santel has been announced as one five finalists for the Man vs. Food: Nation Casting Call contest (need to be a facebook fan of Man vs Food to view page). The other finalists are Kyle Hook from Tucson, Lauren Takao from Hawaii, John Lomascolo from Albany and Dan Baker from Philadelphia. Darren Rovell reports that the 2011 Nathan's hot dog eating contest on ESPN received a 1.1 overnight rating, less than 2010 but more than the 2008 & 09 ratings. update Rovell says that the 2011 contest had the most viewers (1.94 million) since ESPN began televising it in 2004.
