Randy Santel has been announced as one five finalists for the Man vs. Food: Nation Casting Call contest (need to be a facebook fan of Man vs Food to view page). The other finalists are Kyle Hook from Tucson, Lauren Takao from Hawaii, John Lomascolo from Albany and Dan Baker from Philadelphia. Voting closes August 11. update Lauren has a facebook page about her eating challenges titled Lauren the Eater. update Randy Santel appeared on KCTV5 to promote his video.

The Bismarck Tribune reports that Paul Chapman will be attempting the Slapshot Challenge consisting of 15 sliders and a large fries and milkshake at JP's in Durham, NH on tonight's episode of Man vs. Food: Nation and claims the challenge has been renamed "Chappy's Challenge" after he finished it in 23 minutes. Darren Rovell reports that the 2011 Nathan's hot dog eating contest on ESPN received a 1.1 overnight rating, less than 2010 but more than the 2008 & 09 ratings. update Rovell says that the 2011 contest had the most viewers (1.94 million) since ESPN began televising it in 2004. A graph in last year’s broadcast of the Nathan’s finals listed Llamas as the top Nathan’s performer in the 1980’s with a total near 20 hot dogs. This is based on a Wikipedia fabrication claiming that Luis Llamas from Mexico won the 1983 contest with a total of 19.5 hot dogs.
According to an Associated Press article, the winner in 1983 was Emil Gomez with a total of 10.5 hot dogs.

Westwood.com reports the 11 pound pizza challenge at Virgilo's in Littleton, CO will be featured on tonight's episode of Outrageous Food on the Food Network at 10 pm eastern. The women's contest at the Nathan's finals may not appear on ESPN. IFOCE.com lists the start time of the female division at 11:30 am eastern and the ESPN broadcast will start at 12 noon eastern.
