Johnnie Excel has a new blog entry about winning a turkey taco eating contest held at Mr. Peabody's in Encinitas, CA and finishing the 28 pizza challenge (video) at Red Devil Pizza, intended for a two person team, without assistance.

Mister Wing's in Bolivar, MO has a burger challenge that will award at least $200 to the first finisher. The amount will increase $10 with each failed attempt.

Here is a list of the largest restaurant eating challenge payouts I am aware of. Additional challenges will be added to the list if documentation is provided:

  • $300 / $1300, unamed 130 pound woman, 3 2+ pound burritos, Green Burrito, Orange County, CA. The base reward for completing the challenge was $300. The restaurant owner gave the woman a $1000 bonus for finishing the challenge a second time in his presence. The feat was mentioned in a 1993 Los Angeles Times article, so it is at least that old.

NBC San Diego has a report on yesterday's Big One Burger eating contest at Daddy O's in Point Loma. Peter Ruiz defeated Matt Cohen to win the contest.

Johnny D's in Pleasantville, NJ (Atlantic City area) will award $1000 to a customer that finishes its 36 inch pizza in under 45 minutes in March.
Hunt Strong has a blog entry about Man vs. Food: Nation recording at Rapscallions in Land O Lakes, Florida on Friday. On of the diners attempting the challenge was professional wrestler Jerry Sags, half of The Nasty Boys tag team.
Aaron Ybarra was the first person to finish the six pound burrito from the White Rabbit Truck yesterday. His time was 16 minutes.
Chubby's BBQ in Emmitsburg, MD has a gallery of an unnamed woman who is the first person to finish its "Avalanche" burger challenge.
Pie-Fection in Orlando announces the Pie-Zilla Challenge that will award $20,000. update The contest is closed to professionals. Five teams of two amateurs will be selected.
The page about the "Hugilio" challenge on Virgilio's web site has been updated with pictures and a video of Stephanie Torres finishing the 11 pound pizza in an hour and 51 minutes on February 22. update Andrew Lane has a blog entry about Stephanie eating the 7 pound burrito at Jack n Grill (via comment).
Clarion Online has an article about the challenge offered by The Cookie Mill in Azuza, CA consisting of 8 scoops of ice cream between two big cookies.
