Andrew Martin wrote an article for SportsRaid about outfielder Ping Bodie facing off against an ostrich in a spaghetti eating contest held at the New York Yankees training camp in Jacksonville, FL on April 3, 1919. He does not believe the competition was fatal for the bird, as some accounts have described.
